| Review of BLACKASIA Vol. 1 on Bopadum.co.uk |

Came across this guy on the My Space madness who kindly sent us three CDs!
Listening to the Black Asia Volume 1 album it has a different slant to the norm as he resides in Singapore and, therefore, this album has that tinge of oriental influence among the asian beats.
Bollywood Lust is a daring track... it has a Sarangi that leads us through the track with female vocals who must surely be having an orgasm! The male vocals on this you will have heard of before and have been told by r-H that they have been used on BBC Asian Network radio.
Liquid is the oriental flavour I was on about, with the Loop Guru style animal soundscapes and tubular bells that give it that east asia edge this is a nice drum n bass effect-vocals by birds and frogs!
Lemon Grass fuses the east Asian Vocals with a mellow Bhangra style beat again working to great affect.
Tim Sum Vindaloo is another example of the South and East Asia, mixing the Shamisan, Indian and Oriental Classical Vocals with the Bansuri-sounds like a confused melting pot but it sounds great over the top of breakbeats and house tempos.
If you are looking for something slightly different on the Asian Underground definitely visit Mr. r-H! With many different rhythms and styles from Dub, Jazz, Hip Hop and Drum n bass fusing South and East Asia, I am begining to think is this an under-rated album? ~ Bopadum |
